I am a Ph.D. candidate in Information Science at the University of Michigan. My advisor is Mark S. Ackerman, and I am a member of the SocialWorlds research group at the School of Information. My interests in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) have led me to study people’s behavior in using technology, examine ways people can interact with the ubiquitous computing environment, and develop new mechanisms to share knowledge and help each other in an online community.
I am currently working on my dissertation on new mechanisms and tools for distilling discussion spaces and providing help in an online community. In the past, I have studied an Internet-scale knowledge building community to understand users’ motivations, behaviors, and mechanisms in generating knowledge and helping others. I have also developed a collaborative authoring tool in order to help a small number of human experts to distill a large discussion space into reusable information as well as matching experts with knowledge.
I am expected to graduate in the Summer of 2010. [resume]
